Colonel Walter R. Nall

Colonel Walter R. Nall is originally from Tuskegee, Alabama.  In 1983, he enlisted in the Alabama Army National Guard as a private (E-1).  Upon completing OCS, he was commissioned a Field Artillery (FA) 2LT in June 1986.  After a three-year assignment as a Fire Direction Officer with the Alabama National Guard, he relocated and joined the New Jersey Army National Guard in 1989.In his first assignment, ColNall served as the Executive Officer with Headquarters and Headquarters Battery (HHB), 4/112th FA in Lawrenceville, NJ.  He later served as HHB and Bravo Battery Commander with 1/112thFAin Cherry Hill.  In 1999, he branch transferred to the Quartermaster Corps and served in various positions with the 42nd Division Support Command (DISCOM) and the 250th Forward Support Battalion in Somerset and Sea Girt, NJ respectively.  ColNall was called to serve in Operation Iraqi Freedom III with the 42nd DISCOM in 2005.  After returning from his combat tour, Col Nall was assigned to the 119th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion (CSSB)as the Executive Officer.  He was later promoted to LTC in February 2007 and assigned to the United States property & Fiscal Office (USP&FO) at Fort Dix. 

Prior to his command, Col Nall was the Maintenance Officer for Joint Forces Headquarters, New Jersey (JFHQ-NJ).  In early 2007, he was detailed as the Officer in Charge of the Pre-Mobilization Training Assistance Element (PTAE), which provides and validates training for all New Jersey Army National Guard units scheduled for deployment.  Under his leadership, the PTAE trained and validated training for over 3,000 New Jersey Soldiers.Col Nall took Command of the 119th CSSB in 2010 and served as the Commander of the 119th Logistics Task Force, which deployed to Afghanistan in 2011.  After his second combat tour, he was assigned to JFHQ-NJ and soon after re-assigned to the 42ndRegional Support Command (RSG) as the Executive Officer.  His promotion to Colonel occurred in September 2013 and he currently serves as the G3, JFHQ-NJ. 

Col Nall holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Troy State University and a Masters’ of Science degree in Management from Liberty University.  He is a graduate of the Field Artillery Officer’s Basic and Advance Course, Quartermaster Officer’sAdvance Course, Combined Arms Staff Service School, the Theater Sustainment Course, and the Command and General Staff College.

His military awards include the Bronze Star Medal, several Army Commendation Medals, Army Achievement Medals, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and the NATO Medal. 

Col Nall is very active with Community and Fraternal organizations.  He is a life member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated and serves as the Vice Baslieus (Vice President) ofthe Delta Upsilon Chapter, Trenton, New Jersey.  In addition, Colonel Nall is a member of other organizations to include Veteransof Foreign Wars-Post 7298 (Life Member), American Legion-Post 414, Prince Hall affiliated32nd Degree Masons, and the Omega Delta Upsilon Foundation.

As a civilian, Col Nall is the Superintendent of Veterans Haven-South, a Transitional Housing Program for homeless Veterans located in Winslow, New Jersey.  He is married to Dorinda Sapp-Nall, EEO Officer for the NJ Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and is the proud parent of W. Zachery Nall who recently graduated from Penn State University.
